Hull Storage & Interiors Ltd distributes storage and workplace equipment. We do not manufacture, so our effect on the environment comes mainly from the products we choose to sell, how they reach the customer and how we run our own premises. This policy sets out how we keep that effect as small as we reasonably can.

1. Our commitments

We will:

  • comply with the environmental law that applies to our business
  • prevent pollution and reduce waste at our own premises
  • use energy, fuel and materials with care
  • take environmental performance into account when we choose suppliers and products
  • help customers choose durable products that can be repaired, extended, reused and recycled
  • review this policy, and how we are doing, every year

2. The products we sell

Much of what we sell is steel shelving, racking and furniture. It lasts for many years, it can be extended or moved instead of replaced, and it is widely recycled at the end of its life.

Because we do not manufacture, we rely on our suppliers for environmental information about their products. We pass it on to customers as we receive it, and we do not make an environmental claim about a product unless our supplier can support it.

3. Our suppliers

We buy from UK-based manufacturers, distributors and importers. We expect them to comply with environmental law, including the rules on packaging, chemicals, timber and waste that apply to the goods they place on the market. We prefer suppliers who can show how they manage their own effect on the environment.

4. Delivery and installation

Where we can, goods travel direct from our supplier to the customer, which avoids double handling and extra mileage. We plan deliveries and site visits to cut wasted journeys. We expect our installation subcontractors to leave each site clean, and to take packaging and offcuts away for reuse or recycling.

5. Our own premises

AreaWhat we do
WasteWe reduce, reuse and recycle before we dispose. We separate our waste for recycling and use licensed waste carriers.
EnergyWe switch off what we are not using, and choose efficient lighting, heating and equipment when things are replaced.
TravelWe plan and share journeys, and use phone and video calls in place of travel where that works for the customer.
PaperQuotations, invoices and catalogues are sent electronically unless a customer asks for paper.
PackagingWe reuse packaging that is fit for the purpose, and ask suppliers to avoid excess.

6. Carbon and net zero

We support the UK’s target of net zero emissions by 2050, and the NHS aim of a net zero supply chain by 2045. Where a customer’s procurement requires a Carbon Reduction Plan, we will provide one in the form they ask for.

7. Responsibilities and review

A director is responsible for this policy, and everyone who works for us is expected to follow it. We review it every year and publish the current version on our website.
